TESSELLATED Galley Visit

I am going to talk about Samantha Holmes's slip cast tiles work first. I am not sensitive to the abstract artwork.  But I do feel a little bit familiar with some of the single pattern. It seems like I have seen some of this pattern somewhere, like church and temple. Then he chooses those pattern as one of the elements for his artwork, arranges them in a new way. Also, Samantha Holmes's slip cast tiles are not only the patterns. Every single tile is three-dimensional. There is also color arrangement on the surface of those tiles. Something interesting is, he does separate the color arrangement and the pattern arrangement. I try to look at his artwork in a different angle, the color, the pattern and the three-dimensional, all his effort make those artwork have a rich layering. This is incredible.

There were also some his paper artwork in the galley. I very enjoy some of them name OPEN WINDOWS. It was made by gold leaf on paper. Samantha Holmes creates those in a square, which maybe symbolizes as the windows. Also, those patterns have at least four layers as I can account. Each layer has different patterns, but they are all in gold. I stood in front of the frame, and then I have a feeling about I am trying so hard looking through those couple gold windows with a lot of patterns which block my view, to find out what is behind them.
