Feedback for Cindy Sherman movie 


         Before I saw the movie, I know the name Cindy Sherman and saw few of her work in the social media unconsciously. I know some of her work has some special characters like dramatic lighting and strange subject. The movie offers me a lot of new information. But to be honest, I am not willing to access all of them like her work reference with the horror movie. I don’t even completely finish the last 10 minutes of the film which part was talking about her horror artwork. I am not that people enjoy in horror movie, I fear that stuff. But when I press the fast-forward button to finish the last part, there seem some work shame me about my behavior. Cindy Sherman uses doll or model of the human body to create her artwork.  Some of those artwork symbolizes the darker side of human being that maybe people don’t choose to look at. And I choose to pass them. What a shame.
         Cindy Sherman said that camera as a tool, not just catch what people see, but also showing somebody imagination. Without question, Cindy Sherman very good at dress up and makeup herself as other roles in front of her camera. She plays a lot of different role in her artwork. It makes me confused about her identity. Her artwork also challenges me about the truth behind the picture. Like the picture I post, I thought she suffer from domestic violence, then take a picture. Actually, she just makes up herself as a role who suffer from domestic violence. Those pictures really let me consider more about identity. Especially for the generation like me grow up with the internet, I could be a lot of different role in front of the picture. My friends may build an impression in their head about me basic on the picture I posted to the social media, but that impression is not completely about me. It is impossible to fully understand a person basic on his social media account. But I just keep doing it, as usual, keep building an impression basic on the information I saw on the internet. I guess it is the problem of identity Cindy Sherman challenge with on some of her artwork.










Feedback for Georges Rousse movies 1

How amazing his work is. If photography is the art to make three-dimension into two-dimension, then Georges’ work is the art to make two-dimension into three-dimension. I am confused when the first time I saw his work at class. His artwork is so illusive. But more than that, I also wonder what is the purpose of his wok. Because I think his photo could also be done with phototshop or some other photo processing software. After I saw the movie and the introduction about his work in internet, I realize that I might too naïve to judge his work on this way. His work is not only to create a photo, but also about rebuild a space on those building which might be dismantled not long after. Photography is only one park of his work which use to record the space he rebuilt. The pigment he use is bright which make the picture so infectious. This is the reason illusive me at first and make me related to photoshop. However, the video mentions that his work name installation art. Some of the building with his work may have to be dismantle, although he spends a lot of time on it. The artwork exists not long. But I hope his work would exist in people minds for a long time.

Feedback for Vik Muniz

          I want to talk about the question Vik Muniz argue with, in the very first part of the video. He said sometimes creation seem meaningless. Or I would say art sometimes seem meaningless. Vik answers the question; he said it is not truly. Creativity is always meaningful. The art with creativity is also meaningful. Unlike industrial products, artwork can’t affect people physical life or improve the efficiency of life. I always think art is an emotional product. It can affect people emotion and the way they are feeling. Vik gave me another understanding of art after the video. His artwork made me think that art is personal and selfish before it sharing. There is a short part of the video showing a person eating spaghetti then drawing a face on the spaghetti. I think it is the creativity Vik is talking. The purpose of a person drawing on his spaghetti is not use it making money or other reason, just because it makes him happy. Vik’s artwork seems not graceful like he drew a really simple pattern on the ground or the sky. And those pattern is so simple as a child drawing. Also, he uses variety of daily stuff to creates his artwork, like paper, chocolate, and cotton. But his purpose of all his work is not creating artwork to make money. He did it just because he feels happy to do it and his work could free his creativity. By coincidence, people love his artwork, and it makes him creating art for a living.

Feedback for waste land

I give my greatest respects to the artist Vik Muniz and his family and his team. We have discussed a little bit about what is the responsible for an artist. There is no standard answer to this question. But I think Vik answer it by his action. After he goes to America, he could have a better life, but he chooses come back to Mexican and help the people work in the largest landfill in the world. He is so brave to make this decision. When he told his plan to his wife, his wife show worry about his health issue. I know it is not just about him; it is about his family is brave also.

There is no doubt that the movie is shocking, I could not possibly care less. Those people work in the landfill with any protection. There is an aerial angle can get out of my brain. When the garbage truck come and fall down the garbage, the picker climbs up to the garbage pile just like the ants find the food. Life is much no easy for them. But they still have pure and true faith. The light of human nature. A worker wants his son to be lawyer or doctor would care about the picker. A back picker knows how to read would excite when he picks up a good book. A lady falls in love with a truck driver. A young pretty girl feeds some children with doing this job. They both pride for their joy, because they live by honest labor. The artwork creates by Vik and the picker is crazy impressed. I appreciate for Vik job let me have a chance to see those people real life. And I also hope the picker would live better and better.
